The purpose of this GDPR Privacy Notice is to:

  • Assure you that New Temple Chambers respects your privacy and the information relating to you, otherwise known as your Personal Data, which is provided to New Temple Chambers and that you can trust us with your information.
    We are determined to do nothing that would infringe your rights or undermine your trust
  • Provide information and explain the personal data that New Temple Chambers collects about you, how we use and share it and your rights regarding it.

2. Data Controller

2.1 – New Temple Chambers is registered via the Head of Chambers, Charles Edwards with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a Data Controller for the Personal Data that it holds and processes. Our registration number is ZA029664 and our Data Protection Officer is Charles Edwards, the Head of Chambers.

2.2 – New Temple Chambers is a specialist set of Barristers’ chambers specialising in Construction and Engineering. All barristers practising from this set of chambers are self-employed individuals.

2.3 – New Temple Chambers is responsible for providing the management and administrative support functions on behalf of all barristers practising from New Temple Chambers for all matters where such barristers are instructed through New Temple Chambers.

3. Data collection – How New Temple Chambers may collect information (“Personal Data”) relating to you and the purpose New Temple Chambers may collect such information?

New Temple Chambers may collect your personal data in a number of ways:

3.1 – During the management and administration of each Barrister’s practice and work, New Temple Chambers may obtain your personal data, including special categories of personal data as defined in the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) for the purpose of instructing or potentially instructing a Barrister who is a member of New Temple Chambers to provide legal services (including legal advice and/or representation).

3.2 – You may have provided New Temple Chambers with your personal business details in relation to instructing a Barrister on legal matter or for the purposes of communicating with a Barrister regarding legal advice.

3.3 – You may have provided New Temple Chambers with your personal business contract details in relation to legal updates, seminars, events, marketing and business development opportunities.

3.4 – If you have completed ‘Contact Forms’ on our website, we may collect any personal information which you choose to provide when you fill in any of these forms on http://newtemplechambers.co.uk/ This may include details such as your name, position, company and your contact details. We may use this personal data to respond to any queries and/or provide the services and/or information that you have requested from New Temple Chambers.

3.5 – If you register for a seminar or event, New Temple Chambers we may share your name, professional title and your company details with other people that are attending the same seminar or event. With regard to other marketing, we may have obtained limited personal data at an event or through an introduction by a third party or through mutual networking activity in person or via social media, email or other digital communications.

3.6 – If you visit New Temple Chambers website www.newtemplechambers.com, your personal data may also be collected.

3.7 – Where personal contact details have been provided to New Temple Chambers by you or on your behalf, New Temple Chambers may use it to keep you updated about legal updates including articles, blogs, seminars, events, future events and our services by Linkedin, Twitter, email, telephone or postal mail. You may be contacted via Linkedin, Twitter, email, telephone or by post for marketing purposes relating to our legal services and legal updates, seminars, events, where we are legally permitted to do so, unless you let us know that you do not want to receive this type of marketing. You have the right to object to this processing if you wish and if you wish to do so then please opt out by following the process set out in section 3.8 below (marketing opt-out).

3.8 – Opting out of our Marketing. You may opt out of communications from our organisation at any time if they are not directly related to a contract between New Temple Chambers or any member of New Temple Chambers, with you or your company, or the management of a legal case or proceedings. You may do so by replying to any marketing message (via LinkedIn or Twitter etc) or e-mail or other marketing material sent by us with the statement “unsubscribe”.

3.9 – New Temple Chambers may also use your personal data on an anonymised basis to analyse how to improve the service that barristers and staff provide to you.

3.10 – New Temple Chambers does not use automated decision-making in the processing of your personal data. If you choose not to provide personal data requested by New Temple Chambers, or if you object to New Temple Chambers processing your personal data, New Temple Chamber may not be able to provide you with the information and/or services you have requested or otherwise fulfil the purposes for which we have asked for the personal data.

4. Lawful basis for processing, using or storing your information

5. New Temple Chambers’ Storage, processing, sharing of your personal data

5.1 – Where is your personal data stored?

New Temple Chambers stores personal data. This includes name, email, phone number, address, bank or payment details, date of birth, family or next of kin, company name and information from Companies House about you provided to it on our contact management database.

New Temple Chambers will not keep personal data longer than required. You can request New Temple Chambers at any time to suspend processing of your personal data or remove your personal data or to correct any inaccuracies at any time.

5.2 – Storage

Your personal data is processed at New Temple Chambers’ office and in any other places where the parties involved with the processing are located.

Your personal data is stored on securely in the European Economic Area (EEA).

5.3 – Security

New Temple Chambers will take reasonable precautions to prevent unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorised destruction of your personal data.
